Symphony and Singers in Concert: Haydn's The CreationThe Peterborough Symphony Orchestra and Peterborough Singers unite for a special concert featuring Joseph Haydn’s beloved oratorio, The Creation. This inspiring collaboration brings together orchestra and chorus, under the direction of Michael Newnham, to present a vivid musical journey from chaos to light, filled with dramatic storytelling and radiant sound.
The Creation depicts the genesis of the world with breathtaking orchestration, radiant choruses, and soaring solo performances. Joining the PSO and Peterborough Singers are vocal soloists, Karoline Podolak, soprano, Jacob Abrahamse, tenor, Alexander Dobson, baritone, William Kraushaar, bass and Shannon McCracken, soprano. “When the PSO joins forces with the Peterborough Singers,” Maestro Newnham says, “something special always happens. It’s something that only comes around rarely. This will be a weekend of great music-making that Peterborough will be talking about for a long time to come.”
The concert will be held on Saturday, May 9 at 7:30 pm and Sunday, May 10 at 3 pm at Emmanuel United Church. Consider arriving 45 minutes early for Maestro Newnham’s pre-concert talk and get a sneak peek of what you will hear.
Audiences will be transported from chaos to light, experiencing Haydn’s genius in a live performance that showcases the depth and artistry of Peterborough’s vibrant music community. Don’t miss this unforgettable concert celebrating the power of live music!
